Dr Michael Gell
Managing Director

Michael has over 30 years business, commercial and industrial experience covering energy, environment, and advanced technologies.  His career started with British Gas R&D spending nearly a decade on research into energy conservation and air pollution.

After obtaining a PhD in Physics at Newcastle University in collaboration with RSRE at Malvern and IBM Research Centre at Yorktown Heights, he subsequently worked with various other blue-chip companies on advanced technologies and industrial processes.  In 1990 he established BT’s Systems Research Centre at Martlesham and went on in 1995 to set up an independent consultancy & research business focusing on risk management, resource efficiency and green business.  He has provided consultancy and advisory services to over two hundred organisations in the areas of resource efficiency, ecodesign, footprinting and business competitiveness, from compliance with environmental legislation, through to ecodesign of products, and technologies and competitive strategy for low-carbon markets.  He has remained active in leading-edge research in science and technology and regularly publishes articles on low carbon technologies and business.  Michael has managed projects and programmes across the Americas, Europe and the Far East and acts as an advisor to various public bodies and commercial and not-for-profit organisations in the energy and environmental sectors.  This includes involvement with the EPEAT standards development process for green electronic goods (Imaging Equipment), membership of the East of England Steering Group of IEMA, technical advisor to the Carbon Disclosure Project, and member of cabinet of the World Economic Forum Task Force on Climate Change.
